Dear Readers
Enjoy a festive story this time.
Raksha Bandhan is usually a happy festival for most children but that was not the case for Bitsie and Chickee. They did not have a brother. Seeing other children happy and enjoying the festivities would make them quite sad. They often wondered if having a brother would make them feel better.
They were discussing this with each other when their mother walked in, “Why so sad? Is everything okay?” “No, Mum! We are unhappy. Why didn’t God make one of us a boy. We would also have enjoyed Rakhi”, cried Bitsie.
“Oh! My little stars! Don’t feel sad. So what if you don’t have a brother, you have each other. How about we start a new tradition? How would you feel about tying rakhi to each other?”, said their mother with a twinkle in her eyes.
“What! But everyone would laugh at us. Two sisters celebrating Rakhi! We will become the laughing stock”, cried Bitsie in disbelief. “Beta, if we will care about our image so much, we will not be able to enjoy our life. I am not saying that no one will laugh. Some people might laugh. But some people might think of it as a novel and delightful idea. What people think is beyond our control, so why worry? Just enjoy your life”, said Mother quite wisely.
“Of course Mom, you are absolutely right! Why didn’t we think of tying rakhis to each other. After all, Raksha Bandhan is all about promising to love and protect each other. And I know that Bitsie would never let anyone harm me”, chuckled a cheerful Chickee. “And I know that no one loves me more than you, my sweet Chickee”, said Bitsie.
“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s prepare the thalis and celebrate”, said the three in unison. Just then, their papa also walked in and the four of them celebrated a beautiful new tradition. Bitsie and Chickee tied rakhi and promised that they will always look out for one another and their love for each other will never diminish. “But I can’t promise that I won’t fight”, said Chickie and all of them burst out laughing.
Enjoy the edition!
Love
Priyanka
