Hello Readers,

Do you know what day is it today?

It is International Snailpaper Day! Please take a guess what it must refer to! Let’s bifurcate the word into two – snail and paper. We know what a snail is – an insect that moves very slowly and that’s why a slow move is referred to as snail paced. So what does it mean – a paper that moves slowly! But it doesn’t make any sense. Yet it does! Paper refers to information. And we know that newspapers that are delivered to us carry information that is at least 10-12 hours stale. So the newspaper is an information source that move slowly as compared to the digital and online news applications where the same information is delivered to us in real time. Hmm! Now, it makes sense – Today is International Newspapers Day.

You must wonder why didn’t I just say that. The term ‘snailpaper’ is the brainchild of a newspaper lover Dan Bloom and the idea behind it is to take a pause and appreciate the finer and seemingly unimportant things in life. If you do not have time to smell the roses then at least inhale a little newsprint, before it’s gone forever.

Why would it disappear you ask? Because of what everyone is hooked on to all the time. Phones. Information is just a click away. Ironically, the likelihood of you reading this is if you are online! What I would like you to do is to pick up a newspaper when the lockdown is over, savour the feel of its natural fibre, enjoy the rustling sound the paper makes when you turn the page, take a whiff of the organic pulpy smell and don’t let this feeling go!

Because this is what LIFE is! This is what LOVE is!

Also celebrating our Tuesday Champions - Atharva, Mihira, Radhika, and Sakshya. Many thanks to Shivani Manavannan for her beautiful contribution on Mud Puddling.

Enjoy the edition!
