हाथ कंगन को आरसी क्या, और पढ़े लिखे को फ़ारसी क्या?

Haath Kangan ko aarsi kya, aur padhe likhe ko faarsi kya?

This is a very interesting proverb, because the two parts of the proverb actually give two different lessons.

हाथ कंगन को आरसी क्या - This means that if you have bangles on your wrist, you don't need a mirror to see if they are there. That which is self-evident, needs no proof.

पढ़े लिखे को फ़ारसी क्या - He who is educated, has no fear of Persian. (Persian was considered a difficult language to master, and only the well-educated knew it). Roughly translated, it mean, 'He who is learned, does not fear challenges in his domain.'

ननु प्रवातेअपि निष्कंपा गिरय:

Nanu Pravaate-api nishkampa Giraya:

Even in the strongest of storms, the mountains remain unmoved.

Interpretation: One way to interpret this is that people who have inner strength are not easily swayed, no matter how strong the provocation.
