Our Young Journalists (10 to 16 years old) are churning out news stories with aplomb.

One of them sent a news story about an artificial cell.

The term used to describe the mass of genetic material in the nucleus of a cell was 'chromatid'. He gave the reference of a well known YouTube science channel for checking the science facts.

One of the young reviewers wrote in that the term is not Chromatid, but Chromatin.

I (a Commerce grad) was the editor on duty. I retained the original term (because of the reference of the well known YouTube channel).

Vanitha, who is a science grad herself and whose daughter is a genetic scientist, did the review and said that the term is chromatin, not chromatid.

Vanitha usually sleeps at 10 pm. At 10:15 pm, i messaged her, "When i read online, from that channel and others, the term that appears is not Chromatin. Can you please check once again?"

Instead of shooting me down straightaway, she replied, "Let me check."

At 11:40 pm, Vanitha messaged, "Can I call now?"

And that is how at 11:57 p.m., Vanitha explained the difference between Chromatin, chromatid, and chromosome. The paper was subsequently released with the right term.

Oh, to be in a team that holds itself to such standards!
