Haath Kangan ko aarsi kya, aur padhe likhe ko faarsi kya?

This is a very interesting proverb, because the two parts of the proverb actually give two different lessons.

This means that if you have bangles on your wrist, you don't need a mirror to see if they are there. That which is self-evident, needs no proof.

पढ़े लिखे को फ़ारसी क्या - He who is educated, has no fear of Persian. (Persian was considered a difficult language to master, and only the well-educated knew it). Roughly translated, it mean, 'He who is learned, does not fear challenges in his domain.'

Nanu Pravaate-api nishkampa Giraya:

Even in the strongest of storms, the mountains remain unmoved.

Interpretation: One way to interpret this is that people who have inner strength are not easily swayed, no matter how strong the provocation.

Kaale falanti teerthani, sadya saadhusamagam:

The good results of a pilgrimage are received at some time in the future, but the good result of the company of good men, can be felt immediately.

Andher Nagri, Chaupat Raja,
Take Ser Bhaji, Take Ser Khaja!

The proverb comes from an old folk tale. It is used to denote an administration where there is no meritocracy.

Budget Special - 2nd February, 2019

The Interim Budget! What fun!

Today's edition is obviously the Budget Special. We have brought you only the key highlights of the budget. When you do read the more detailed budget, do ask a few questions:
  • Where is the money coming from?
  • Where is the money going?
  • How much is Defence getting, and in what areas?
  • What about other important areas - health, education, infrastructure?
A lot of people make the mistake of studying only those parts of the budget that matter to them - what becomes expensive, what becomes cheaper, income tax, etc., We have tried to avoid that bias and present a little information from all the important sectors. But please do read more if you would like.

I have often heard people complain that there aren't any good Hindi story books for children. Today's book review of NBT's folk tales' collection should help with that complaint. The other feature on that page is Praneeth Udathu's Countries of the World.

Page 3 - the Editorial space has been used to share more details of the Budget. Mr. Owl's Do you Know ,Word Magic, and Quote of the Day complete the page.

Page 4 has sports news, a lovely poem for our junior readers (We have started an alphabet poem series - the first was A se Anaar, and today is Aa se Aam. Do tell us what you think of learning the Hindi alphabet in this fun way).
Aditya Nemas Cool Comix wraps up the edition, and its as funny as ever!
