Integrated portal for schools and policy updates - August 29th, 2019

Dear readers,

Last week, at the editors' monthly meet, the other editor aunties reminded me that I have not covered as much business and economy as I used to. So here it is - today's edition starts with an awesome central portal for all schools, and the second news brings you a quick update on the three most important policy decisions that you should know. Use the headline to discuss the implications with your friends. And some discussion that will be!

The second page has the usual Hindi, Sanskrit and English wisdom. Today's puzzle has been contributed by Ishaan Kaila, who also gives us the Laugh-a-lot-it-is every week. The second page also has some questions for you. But don't answer them until after you have read the Editorial. :)

Page 3 has Priyanka aunty's column. Today's feature discusses the cost of studying abroad. The Editorial has taken me a long time to think. I do want to know what you feel.

Page 4 has the Chandamama Fan Club.

Page 5 has some very special Sports News, Ishaan's Laugh-a-lot-it-is, and Ayush Moitra's Bob Mania, whose drawing is only getting better every week. It also has lines from a very popular song. Ask your parents about it. Most of us loved this song, and some of you will, too, once you have heard it.

Much love,

Nidhi aunty

Iron Age Settlement in Vidarbha - August 22nd, 2019

My dear readers

Today's lead news is about an iron age settlement found in Vidarbha, India. Did you know that Maharashtra is, in fact, one of the hubs of archaeology in India? Ajanta and Ellora are both in Maharashtra. When you get the time, please google "petroglyphs of Maharashtra" to unearth a cool historical mystery.

The second story is not so cool, unfortunately. Do read what made this July a record breaking one, and not in a good way.

Page 2 has your favourite Sanskrit, Hindi, and English wisdom. The puzzle corner and the word magic are right there too. Sanskrit talks about the root of all evil and the Hindi muhavara - Aasmaan se tapke, khajoor mein atke, is really a funny way to describe a not so funny situation.

Page 3 has a story in Hindi. This story made me think for 2 days. Do let me know what you think of the story. Page 4 has Priyanka aunty's Study Abroad feature. Today, she answers a very important question - should voluntary work be done?

Page 5 is the Chandamama Fan Club. Page 6 has Sports news from a sport that you rarely read about in India - Volleyball. Time for India to start thinking Volley, methinks. There is a joke by Ishaan Kaila, and a small cartoon by me.

Enjoy the edition!

Love
